In 2022, the ACICIS Indonesian Language Short Course
(ILSC) will be offered virtually! This is a virtual version of Learning Language Locally INDN2525/6525 in-country course. This program provides intensive language training to students from beginners to advanced level in Indonesian language. Running in the university vacation periods, the program will either fast-track or supplement a student’s language studies or can be taken as an introduction or a ‘taster’ to the Indonesian language and culture for students exploring an interest in Indonesia. Students will complete intensive Indonesian language tuition incorporating language classes, cultural classes and virtual fieldtrips. Students can take a three-week module (or take two modules for a six week package), delivered by Satya Wacana Christian University. This Summer Session 2022 Virtual program will run for two sessions:
Session 1: 10 January- 28 January 2022
Session 2: 31 January- 18 February 2022
If you successfully complete both sessions, you will receive 12 units of Indonesian language credit.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
This opportunity is open to all ANU undergraduate and postgraduate students. Students must elect the correct language proficiency level as part of their application.
All students who apply to be accepted into Level 1 (introductory)
of summer intensive Indonesian first need to confirm explicitly in writing to the CAP Student Centre (firstname.lastname@example.org) that they have no substantial knowledge of Indonesian, or Malay, or Malaysian gained from any
i) formal study of Indonesian/ Malay/ Malaysian
ii) time spent in an Indonesian / Malay/ Malaysian-speaking country (e.g. Indonesian, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei)
iii) family background (use of Indonesian/ Malay/ Malaysian with a family member, either currently or in the past.)
As part of your application to ACICIS, you will need to specify the ACICIS language level that you will need to complete as part of the program. Below is a table which matches the ANU INDN language course with the ACICIS name/level. Please make sure you refer to this when filling out your application so that you know which level you need to be completing.

New Colombo Plan ACICIS
If you are chosen to participate in this course you may be eligible for the ‘virtual’ New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant from ACICIS. These grants are valued between $1600- $3,000 for the Indonesian Language Short Course (ILSC) in 2022. For the three-week program, $1,600 grants are available, and for the six-week program, $3,000 grants are available.
Please note: The virtual New Colombo Plan grant is only available for undergraduate students. If you have already received a short-term mobility grant in the past, you will still be eligible for the virtual mobility grant. There is no separate application for this grant. This grant will be awarded through ACICIS directly.
Please note that you are only able to receive one NCP Virtual Mobility grant.
General Information for Virtual Programs
While the College of Asia and the Pacific welcomes participation from all eligible ANU students, credit towards your degree program will be at the discretion of your home College. It is your responsibility to consult with your College's student advisers about how this course might fit into your current degree requirements and correct proficiency level.
