Program Description:

PRIMO - NTU Singapore

If you are a first-year student and are interested in learning more about Chinese language and culture, you could study an exciting short course at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
Under the ANU PRIMO first-year learning abroad programs, first-year ANU students with Australian citizenship aged 18 to 28 can apply for one of three grants of AUD $3,000 to assist them with the program and living costs of this course. These grants are offered through ANU funded projects of the Australian Government New Colombo Plan Mobility Program.

Chinese Language and Cultural Studies runs from 3 July 2017 to 28 July 2017 at Nanyang Technological University's campus in Singapore, a modern, vibrant and multicultural at the heart of Asia. The course shall open up fascinating Asian cultural experiences and opportunities, giving students an appreciation of the Chinese culture in Singapore that will be enhanced through many field trips to selected places of significant Chinese culture heritage. The course is especially designed for beginners with little or no knowledge on the Chinese language.

This is a fee-paying opportunity and ANU students will pay a program fee directly to Nanyang Technological University. The program fee is SGN $1,110 (or approximately AUD $1,030) per 3-AU course. It does not include airfares, all meals, personal expenses or travel, or other personal purchase choices or necessities.

To be eligible for the grant, you must:
  • be an Australian citizen;
  • be between 18 and 28 years of age upon commencement of the study program.
  • be in your first year of study at start of the program.
  • seek "credit" approval from an academic advisor of your College to be eligible for the grant. It is indeed a condition of the Australian Government mobility grants associated with this global study opportunity that students receive academic credit for the course within their ANU degree. Credit transfer arrangements must be validated and observed by your ANU college(s) and you must receive prior confirmation from your ANU college(s) that you will receive academic credit upon successful completion of this external course
Students who will have finished first-year, but yet to commence second-year, are eligible for one of the grants. Later-year students are welcome to apply for the program, but cannot be considered for one of the grants.

Applications will open on 2 March 2017 and close on 31 March 2017 and you should first apply directly to ANU Global Programs. After consideration by ANU Global Programs participants will then be nominated and be required to submit a further application to Nanyang Technological University.
