Passport and Visa Information

PASSPORT AND VISA INFORMATION

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have a valid visa and a valid passport prior to leaving for your overseas program. Global Programs do not provide visa and passport-related services.

PASSPORT
PASSPORT VALIDITY

If you already have a passport, you need to make sure that your passport still has enough time before it expires. Most countries require you to have at least six months validity after the date you intend to depart from their country. If you have travelled a lot, you also need to make sure that there are enough blank pages left for the travel you are going to do!

APPLYING FOR AUSTRALIAN PASSPORT
If you are an Australian citizen, you can apply for an Australian passport at an Australian Post outlet or online. For more information, visit https://auspost.com.au/id-and-document-services/passports/apply-for-a-new-australian-passport

NON-AUSTRALIAN PASSPORT
If you have a passport from a country other than Australia and need to renew your passport, you can contact your embassy or consulates to enquire about the renewal process.

VISA
PRE-ARRANGED VISA
Some overseas universities may provide you with specific paperwork that might be required to apply for your VISA. You will need to wait until you have received your acceptance letter from the partner institution before being able to apply for your visa.

Acceptance documents can be both hard-copies and soft-copies. In the case of soft-copy documents, the overseas universities will usually send them by email. Some overseas universities may send hard-copy acceptance letters to the ANU Global Programs Office. We will inform you when your hard-copy documents are ready for collection.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS FOR PRE-ARRANGED VISA APPLICATION
Depending on the country you are going to, you may be required to provide health examination documents, travel insurance, health insurance and/or bank statements. It is your responsibility to comply with all immigration regulations and visa requirements. ANU provides travel insurance to students who are going on credit-bearing approved programs. Depending on your visa requirement, this travel insurance may not be sufficient to apply for VISA. Please also note that travel insurance is not the same as health insurance.

VISA ON ARRIVAL
You may not need to apply for visa in advance, depending on the types of programs you are going to and your nationality. Contact embassies and the partner institutions to confirm the type of VISA that you are required to have. In the case of Visa on arrival, you just need to make sure you have all the required documents ready, and apply when you arrive.
